Cantonese Workshop
Course Objectives
Language is an essential communication tool, and having a pleasant voice can enhance your personal charm! Have you ever experienced fatigue, dryness, sore throat, hoarseness, or even inflammation in your vocal cords while speaking, presenting, or singing? Have you ever found it difficult to hear someone clearly due to their voice being too deep or too high-pitched? Do you have lazy sounds in your Cantonese? What are lazy sounds? The goal of the Cantonese Beautiful Voice Workshop is to introduce diaphragmatic breathing (dantian breathing) and teach you how to use this technique to protect your vocal cords. “Breathing with support” will help improve your Cantonese pronunciation, making your speech flow more smoothly. Additionally, this workshop will assist students in finding their most comfortable speaking pitch, and through a captivating voice, strengthen their public speaking skills, language persuasion, confidence, and charm.
Course Content
- Introduction to the phonetics and features of Cantonese.
- Discussion and improvement of common lazy sounds, such as front nasal and back nasal sounds.
- Introduction to diaphragmatic breathing (dantian breathing) and hands-on practice with the instructor to protect vocal cords and regulate breathing.
- Helping students improve pronunciation and find their best voice range.
- How to use Cantonese intonation to express emotions and achieve effective communication.
- Enhancing public speaking skills to boost confidence and highlight personal charm.
Course Features
The instructor will introduce the characteristics of Cantonese and demonstrate diaphragmatic breathing, vocal resonance, and various techniques for opening the voice and protecting the vocal cords. The course emphasizes interaction with students and practical exercises. Students are encouraged to wear casual or athletic clothing for the class. In addition to group training on voice-opening techniques, the instructor will offer personalized vocal tips based on each student’s situation. Students are welcome to ask questions and exchange ideas.
The instructor is a seasoned television and radio news producer who has trained many new journalists in Cantonese broadcasting techniques. With rich teaching and speaking experience, the instructor has also served as a master of ceremonies and MC trainer for many years. They are skilled in using music, singing, and drama techniques to help express speech rhythm, intonation, and emotions, making the class fun and engaging.
Another unique feature of the course is that students can express the emotional power of language through role-playing, such as acting as a banquet MC, TV show host, radio DJ, news reporter, or reciting performances. Students can discover their potential based on their personal interests.

Trainer

Ms. Fan
Ms. Fan is a senior journalist in Hong Kong with 30 years of experience in the media and teaching industries. She is well-versed in the operations of newspaper, radio, and television news broadcasting, and has accumulated valuable insights into voice techniques and interpersonal communication.
Ms. Fan has been teaching Cantonese pronunciation correction at a non-profit organization for 10 years, training over 400 students in one-on-one or small group sessions in electronic media broadcasting, VO (voice-over), and public speaking.
She graduated from the Journalism Department of Shue Yan University and later obtained a Master’s degree in International Journalism and Communications from the Hong Kong Baptist University. Ms. Fan has worked for the Economic Daily, Commercial Radio, and Asia Television. She also held managerial positions in the news departments of Hong Kong Broadband Television and DBC Digital Radio, leading teams to produce 24-hour news programs. Additionally, she served as the president of the Hong Kong Journalists Association from 2007 to 2008.
Her years of experience in news reporting and team management have made Ms. Fan familiar with the operations of the Hong Kong government, business sector, and various civil organizations. She has a keen understanding of social trends and the lives of people at different societal levels. Energetic and cheerful, she brings humor, everyday knowledge, and rich life experiences to the classroom, patiently sharing and learning alongside her students.
Currently, Ms. Fan works as a freelance writer and trainer. She serves as the Director of Media Relations and Training at Transmission People Limited. She also assists overseas media outlets in Hong Kong with collecting information and arranging schedules for interviews.
A strong advocate for lifelong learning, Ms. Fan continues her education despite her busy media career. She has become a tutor for various hobbies and skills. Coming from a family of seamstresses and florists, she was deeply influenced by her upbringing and has since developed into an internationally certified floral arrangement and etiquette instructor.
Ms. Fan has also studied NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming) and hypnotherapy courses under Dr. Huameila, gaining valuable insights that have helped her on her journey toward becoming a life coach. She is currently pursuing an EMBA in Executive Business Administration at City University of Hong Kong.
